The show must go on, even when demolishing and rebuilding one theatre into three auditoria. The building facade also had to remain.
The 1994-5 project attracted an initial budget of $4M.
But City's project manager Cliff Burling-Claridge found sufficient underfloor and ceiling space to allow a mid-floor to be fitted. Through a design and build process, City Construction was able to cut $1M from the project by installing an in situ concrete frame within the old brick structure. Within five and a half months, City Construction had all three cinemas, instead of the initial target of one,
open by 31 March 1995.
